State of Emergency looms in Anambra

Politics update

•Ex-Governor Ezeife

With five days to the conduct of Anambra State governorship election, there is a growing apprehension of the possible declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

Giving this indication at a press conference at the weekend in Awka, a former governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, said that should the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) execute its plot of stopping the November 18, 2017 governorship election, the Federal Government would declare a state of emergency and appoint a sole administrator for the state.

He maintained that IPOB’s no election threat is the worst mistake that could happen in Igbo land, saying that it is unimaginable to assume that the interest of Igbo people could be served by not conducting election on November 18.

According to Ezeife, the job of remaking Nigeria is a task that must be accomplished by the young, not by those he classified as people in the departure lounge.

The former governor said that though Anambra people are lovers of peace, that the people would be hostile to anybody that imposes anybody on them.

His words: “There has been change for the better in Anmabra. Let Anambra people vote and choose who would govern them.

“Anambra people are peace loving people but that does not mean we cannot revolt to an unjust cause. Anmabra people will be hostile to anybody that imposes anybody on them.

“The bottom line, the basic truth is that election/political money is intended to cheat you of your conscience. You win by cheating the cheat. You do that and liberate yourself by following your conscience.

“The government that released python dance on our people, that government will unleash
terror.

“I am sure that no knowledgeable persons have any doubt that Nigeria as we know her, has failed comprehensively and woefully. Nigeria has failed God and man, Instead of raising the respect and dignity of the black man and ultimately wiping away the shame of slavery from black faces.

“This Nigeria should not, must not endure. To remake Nigeria is a task we must face and it is the younger ones that can do that. A new Nigeria restructured and with equity, egalitarianism, justice as fairness, prevailing, must emerge from the present rut.

That new Nigeria may have a place for APGA and the like. We need to keep APGA alive. What is happening in Imo where APC and PDP are collapsing into APGA and Anambra where principal leaders of the PDP moving into APGA are quite encouraging.”

Ezeife noted that the last minute heinous lies by competitors in the forth coming election against themselves even when there was no time for denial was not encouraging.

He added: “On behalf of the people of Anambra State and in the name of God, I appeal to the people in power to have sympathy and allow Anambra people pick who should govern them.

“Remember there is God in heaven when you sit in Kaduna or elsewhere outside Anambra and boastfully announce to your associates who you have picked to be governor of Anambra State. There should be limits to envy and hatred. I beg the people in power to show mercy.”
