How to consume less data on Android
Data usage is how much data your device uploads or downloads using mobile data. To make sure that you’re not using too much data on your data plan, you can check and change your data usage.
Data saving mode
On Android 7.0 and above, you can automatically activate the data saving mode by following these steps.
- Open your device’s Settings app.
- Tap Network & Internet
- Proceed to tap Data usage
- Tap on Data saver.
- Turn Data saver on.
When data saver mode is on, you’ll see the Data saver icon in your status bar and a notification at the top of your device’s Settings app.
Set your mobile data usage or warning limit
This enables you to screen how much data you’re utilizing, enabling you to postpone bandwidth-intensive tasks when on a metered connection.You also can set a warning to alert you when your device has used a certain amount of mobile data.To set a mobile data usage warning:
- Open your device’s Settings app.
- Tap Network & Internet Data usage.
- Tap Mobile data usage Settings .
- If it’s not already on, turn on Set data limit. Read the on-screen message and tap Ok.
- Tap Data limit.
- Enter a number.
- To switch between megabytes (MB) and gigabytes (GB), tap the Down arrow .
- Tap Set.
- You’ll get a notification.
- To turn mobile data back on, follow the steps above and turn off Set data limit.
Alternatively, you can discipline yourself by turning your data on and off depending on the time you need it. If you think any of these methods won’t work for you, consider getting a third-party app
