HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BURNA BOY!!!!
Damini Ogulu professionally known as Burna Boy, born 2 July 1991 in Mbiama in Ahoda West Local Government Area in Rivers State, is an Afro-fusion singer and songwriter.
Burna rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing the lead single "Like to Party" from his debut studio album, L.I.F.E. which sold 40,000 copies on the first day of its release. On 25 November 2015, he released his second album On a Spaceship.
The reggae dancehall performer didn't stop there, as he released his third studio album Outside on January 26, 2018, which he described as a mixtape.
The album received critical acclaim and was ranked as the best Nigerian album of 2018. It won Album of the Year at the 2018 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and later debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
Outside had one of the biggest single "Ye", which ended up atop most Nigerian publications year-end list as the biggest song of 2018, and Burna Boy himself ended the year as Nigeria's biggest artist of 2018.
2018 for him was one of his best years yet, as he won four awards at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, including African Artiste of the Year, Listener's Choice and Best Male MVP.
Burna Boy has been on a roll as won Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards.
It only took Burna Boy a few years to achieve what most of his contemporaries have achieved, even if he might not be as popular as Fela Kuti or King Sunny Ade, he sure has virtually everything he needs to be a better version of the legends.
And to top it up, Burna has been making wins year in year out, as he has bagged another brand ambassadorship role for soda giants, Pepsi.
What a wonderful way to celebrate his birthday.
We can't wait for more from him, as he is set to release a 16-track album African Giant.
